Remodels can be daunting to many, as they can appear to be intimidating and expensive. This doesn’t have to be the case! We’ve compiled some of the easiest tips in order for you to save money on any redesign job.

Most importantly, have a plan before you start! All too often, people will hire a contractor to do a singular job and end up spending way more money than anticipated, not to mention the job taking much longer than expected. A lot of times, contractors wind up unable to complete the simplest of jobs without having to make some other unforeseen changes. This leaves customers feeling frustrated, but the good news is this is easily avoidable. Working with a professional designer eliminates these problems by working with you to create a plan, budget, and timeline you can refer to, so you know what to expect.

Repurpose your furniture. Instead of replacing your items with all new, try refinishing some of your furniture, replacing the couch covers, and adding new cushions. You can find some great items at antique stores, garage sales, and thrift stores to achieve a one-of-a-kind home. Ideally, you can get the look you’re going for without spending a fortune on interior design.

Opt for open shelving. Exposed shelving in the kitchen or bathroom brings a modern and unique feel to the space, while saving you money on all the material needed to create traditional cabinets. This can be a fun opportunity to think outside the box in terms of your remodel and decoration.

Keep your existing plumbing in place. If you’re wanting to save money on a kitchen or bathroom model, use the piping that is currently installed. Most of the time, the heart of a remodel is on the look of the space, not rearranging the layout. Moving just one area of plumbing can cost you upwards of $5,000.

Consider alternative flooring options. Like stated in our last blog, there are plenty of uncommon options for flooring that act as a great way to save money without sacrificing quality. Wood-plank tile and bamboo are just a few of the options, be sure and reference our blog for some inspiration.

Natural lighting is priceless, but expensive light fixtures and bulbs can add up quickly. The more natural light you have coming into your home, the more you can save on lighting expenses and electricity in the future. Windows are your friend.

These tips are easy changes that can be incorporated into any remodel or construction job- having your dream home doesn’t have to be expensive! Reach out to one of our designers and we can work with you to make any project happen within your budget.
