Chic farmhouse kitchens are all the rage these days. People love the clean, simple look with a modern twist. While completely renovating your kitchen may seem overwhelming, there are usually a few simple, quick changes you can make to give a new feel to any room. Here are some swaps you can make to achieve a farmhouse kitchen without breaking the bank.

White Walls and Cabinets. The farmhouse look is appealing because of the crisp, clean look of the all white surroundings. To give the look a more unique appearance and an airy feel, install glass windows in a few of the cabinets.

Swap Out Hardware. Dark kitchen hardware makes for a great contrast against the white paint. Swap out any gold or chrome drawer handles, cabinet knobs, and facets.

Neutral Cool-Toned Backsplash. Any tan or brown colored backsplash won’t compliment your farmhouse kitchen. Opt for an all-white subway tile, or an understated
grey-toned tile.

Range Hoods. Traditional over-the-oven range hoods can be an expensive addition, but building your own is easier than you think. There are plenty of instructions for how to build your own range hood out from wood, such as this one.

Install a Farmhouse Sink. The classic, oversized kitchen sink will always make a statement. While this piece will work with any home, it’s got “farmhouse” written right in the name.

Shiplapped Walls. Installing shiplapped on an accent wall or as a backsplash alternative is a great way to give your kitchen an instant facelift.

Grey Countertops. Replacing traditional granite countertops with concrete or lightly patterned marble is a good choice for modern kitchens.

Family Sized Kitchen Table. Traditional farmhouse kitchens are all focused around the kitchen table, where families would gather and share meals. Look for a wooden table in a light color, or for a more realistic look, strip and paint the one you have. Add chairs painted in black to accent.

Redesigning your home doesn’t have to be difficult, and it certainly doesn’t have to be expensive. Choosing just one or two of these swaps will give a lighter and more modern feel to your kitchen, and achieve the farmhouse look without undergoing an entire remodel!
